If different family members want different plans does it make sense to pursue this option? It depends on a number of different priorities of a household and whether we are talking about a traditional individual health insurance plan or a group health insurance policy. Lets go over some of the choices to consider when pursuing this option.
First, consider the ages of the spouses and/or partners because if one spouse or partner is in a lower age band than the other person then splitting up plans would in theory cost additional money. For instance, if one adult is 34 and the other adult is 28 then the rates are based on the lower of the two adults if a combined plan is chosen. Splitting up plans would then cost more for the 34 year old in theory for at least a couple of years.
However, individuals should prioritze the best coverage for themselves based on needs rather than a modest amount of monthly savings. An example of why households would choose different plans is if a parent wants better coverage for them and their children whereas the other parent wants a higher deductible plan. Compare Health Insurance believes all things being equal on age side then couples should pursue the best medical insurance coverage for each person.
Another option may be to split up children but again 2 or more children are given the same combined rate so if possible keep more than 2 children on the same plan. Health insurance can be confusing at times so it can be smart to contact a health insurance broker for clarification on certain issues.
One way to split up family members is through a San Diego business health policy. A husband and wife home based operation or just a mom and pop retail store front is a way to get guaranteed issuance of coverage regardless of medical conditions plus comprehensive health coverage but each owner/employee can have a unique plan of their own.
Further information on rates and potential waiting periods for pre-existing medical conditions resulting with the impending Affordable Healthcare Act will be announced immediately on this blog or through a press release. For as much as premiums and taxes have been discussed over the past couple of years the most significant issue may be obtaining coverage with pre-existing conditions and how quickly you can upgrade or downgrade coverage.
Another topic for conversation will be whether supposed subsidies will only apply to those plans purchased through the California State health exchange and the plans offered or will it apply toward any plan purchased by an individual or family.
