What is the future of health insurance. From our perspective it will be a tremendous state to be a resident if you have medical needs and eligible for high end subsidies provided by the Affordable Healthcare Act.
The benefits of the new healthcare reform are going to seem like heaven for individuals who need medical care. Getting the best possible plans for reasonable premiums will give people access to the best care and for those individuals paying non-standard health rates will get better coverage for lower premiums and may even qualify for some subsidies.
Only individuals who are on medicaid or without comprehensive coverage with severe medical issues can fully appreciate the predictament they face currently. Premiums can be very expensive even with a modest plan. Individuals with serious pre-existing medical conditions will be now be in a healthcare environment where the best medical treatment is a reality at reasonable premiums.
The flip side of the equation is not quite as favorable for the healthy and those who don't participate by purchasing a health insurance policy. Someone subsidizes individuals with severe medical conditions and/or the low income side of the population. We don't say these things to devalue the sick since we are all capable of becoming sick one day and its important for all us to be concerned about our fellow citizens.
However, there is a tradeoff for covering low income residents and the unhealthy which is higher premiums for those paying standard rates. It will help out that most of the current uninsured will be participating in purchasing california individual health insurance or paying taxes that will increase over time. That being said expect an increase over current premiums of about 20-30% in our opinion within a few years.
Many families including children want and need coverage but are regulary denied by health insurance carriers. This will no longer be the case so the amount of individuals accessing care will greatly increase which will offset the healthy people mandated to participate in the health care system.
Expect good or bad things depending on which side of the equation that applies to you and your family. We bring you this information and opinion so you can anticipate your health care future.
